Can I add word blog to my existing website that is being hosted somewhere else? I also realized that I need to upgrade my blog to a different package but I am not sure which one is right for me.

On WordPress.com, you can use a subdomain of a domain that you already own as your blog’s domain. For instance, if you already have a website up at example.com, and your WordPress.com blog is at example.wordpress.com, you can put your blog in a subdomain of that website, such as blog.example.com. This support doc explains the subdomain mapping process.
