Word Press Content

  • Unknown's avatar

I hired a S E O Consultant who set up everything for me.
Domain Name is with register.com / HostGator is hosting company.

When we went to renew in April, the credit card had expired and the Domain Name was suspended causing the site to go down.

In speaking with HostGator, they are claiming that they no longer have my content.

However, when I put in my Domain Name with .wordpress.com, the Content comes up just like it did when it was live.

register.com is telling me they can redirect to that site with a a) Name Server b) IP Address c) A Record from Host Gator

HostGator is telling me they need info from Word press.

Wordpress has no contact phone numbers or emails.

Seems like I am in a terminal loop.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi there,

If you bought your domain from register.com, and your site is hosted on HostGator’s servers, then WordPress.com does not have anything to do with your site. If you had a site with HostGator that site was using the open source WordPress software, and no data from your site was ever on our servers.

When we went to renew in April, the credit card had expired and the Domain Name was suspended causing the site to go down.

In speaking with HostGator, they are claiming that they no longer have my content.

It sounds like you let your hosting plan with HostGator expire. Most hosting providers delete your site’s files and any backups from their systems if you let this happen, as they don’t provide that service for free. If this is what has happened, and you didn’t keep your own backups of the site, then your content is gone.

However, when I put in my Domain Name with .wordpress.com, the Content comes up just like it did when it was live.

What is the *.wordpress.com address you’re referring to? The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites with us, and was created only a week ago.
