Word Press Hosting on GoDaddy
-
I own a domain on Godaddy. As their blog template is not really what I am looking for I have set up a blog on WordPress. brainpooljp.wordpress.com Now I want to move the domain from GoDaddy to WordPress.
When I checked the GoDaddy site I noticed they offer WordPress Hosting Services for a monthly fee. Has anyone use this services and can tell me, if they are any good? Can I move my blog from WordPress over to godaddy or do I need to set it up again? Thanks
BerndThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nobody here uses their hosting services by definition, as we are all hosted at WordPress.com. I’ve certainly heard unflattering things about GoDaddy.
You can just use the domain name from there over here, following the instructions in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/go-daddy-domain?replies=6
That’s simpler than moving the blog and paying for hosting. Cheaper too, I think.

The WordPress at GoDaddy is the self-hosted wordpress.org, which is basically similar but different from wordpress.com, where your blog is now:

What to do really depends on what you want to do with your blog. If you are satisfied with what wordpress.com offers I would simply map my wordpress.com blog to the domain:

If you want to go with wordpress.org, simply export your blog from wordpress.com and import it into the WordPress installation on GoDaddy. -

Thanks raincoaster and husdal, that is great advise and confirms what I thought. Actually I am very happy with WP and find their admin tools much better and easier to use than those at GD.
Needed a second opinion. -
Regarding the admin tools, I’m not using GD for my self-hosted WordPress blog, but the user interface for a editing the blog itself should be the same for wordpress.org as for wordpress.com. Anyway, I’m glad to be able to offer you a 2nd opinion.

For my blogs I am not planning anything too complicated. As I move around a lot having access remotely is useful.
The only issue I still have is that I also need to move my email account I have with my domain. It’s currently with GD and I understand I will not be able to use it with them once I move the DNS. Not a big deal though. -
You can do email for your domain mapped to your blog here with google MX.

nod to thesacredpath. I’m using it and it has worked perfectly wherever I have hosted my domain.
-
Once upon a time mapping to a subdomain of your domain also allowed you to use your domain email. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/ Is this not the case still?

I have a subdomain on wordpress.com, and there’s no Google MX option in the settings > Domains as it is with top domains. You can still use your domain email, but not through wordpreses.com.
-
I thought about it to keep my email hosting, however, most people know my main domain. So a rather move the domain and use Google MX.
-
It does an alias thing with your email and it looks like it is coming from and going to your (email visible only to moderators and staff) address, so you could keep things as they are as I understand it.
-
Just as an FYI, some emails programs, mostly of the MS Outlook variety, may display the entire alias, so your email address will look something like “yourname @ gmail. com on behalf of yourname @ yourdomain. com”
