Word press is great- using your themes suck

  • Unknown's avatar

    just a thought,

Most time when I select a theme and apply it to my site, the results look NOTHING like the theme preview. Two solutions- have your theme preview reflect EXACTLY what a site will look like when applied.

OR, include instruction on how to mimic the look of the preview( given that the preview is the main reason someone would select a theme)

I know this is a free service, but you might get more people migrating to WordPress if is wasn’t so cryptic as to how to get your site to look like the theme that you selected( with the expectation that once applied your own site would look even remotely like the preview, or at least not boring and generic)

    Just a thought.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

In checking your user account, I see that you have several blogs listed under it.

Can you tell me the URL of the site you are having trouble with? I am happy to take a closer look.

include instruction on how to mimic the look of the preview( given that the preview is the main reason someone would select a theme)

As an alternative to trying out themes from within the dashboard of your site (Appearance>Themes) you may want to try visiting the Theme Showcase at http://theme.wordpress.com/

This can be a big help when dealing with themes that require individual setup, or special content formatting, as that will not be reflected when previewing themes in the dashboard.

You can see information about each theme, as well as a fully configured demo site. Instructions on how to duplicate that setup are also found in the theme description page as well.

For example, this is the full demo for the Motif theme: http://motifdemo.wordpress.com/

And this is the page with info and setup instructions: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/motif/

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
