Word Press Pricing Help

I am contemplating having a company help build our website on word press. I asked them what their pricing is and they said -‘if we want just hosting and server care, its an added $99. All that + monthly maintenance comes in at $499/month’. What hosting and server care is involved? I am contemplating just doing it all myself and just buying the business package.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    Hi there,

There are different types of plans and features available, so pricing depends on what you are looking for.

  • Hi,

It sounds to me like you are talking to a different hosting company than WordPress.com because those prices don’t match anything we offer.

I will say that $499/mo is a pretty high price for a website unless you have very specific and higher end performance and traffic needs.

Can you talk a little more about what you are trying to build?

This is where I am confused- a little background…

We currently have a website (we own our html), and it is maintained by Webteam, Inc. We are not impressed at all and have had them for years. Our website and logo all need to be updated. I am talking with another website team that also does logo creation, SEO, ETC. They told me that they would use WordPress as our website platform. I asked them for their pricing breakdown (again what they gave me did not match up to wordpress pricing). I am contemplating building out the website myself (not much background at all in this) but we have a very simple business in healthcare doing medical billing. No purchasing would be needing to be done on the site, etc. It will really be information, video testimonies, blog area to add updated healthcare news/articles, and a contact us page. I am trying to figure out why they would need $499 for monthly maintenance. Any insight into building this myself, and what the “maintenance” entails would be very helpful. Thank you!

  • Hi there, ok, so first, to clear up any confusion, there are two WordPresses: https://wordpress.com and https://wordpress.org

The software at WordPress.org is free. You then install that on a hosting provider or with an agency you hire, and those are the folks you pay. Those prices can vary greatly.

Over here at WordPress.com, we are a fully managed site-building service that uses the WordPress.org software. So, while we use the free software, we provide a variety of powerful features and services on top, funded by either paid plans or ads (if you’re on the free plan). For our prices, please see https://wordpress.com/pricing/

And for more comparison of the two, please see https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

Back to your situation, if you were to choose us instead, as long as you’re not starting off as a high-traffic store (you could always upgrade later), even our most expensive plan for what you’ve described, the Business Plan, is only $300/year. Still, I bet you could accomplish what you’re describing with our Premium Plan (the minimum for video uploads) at just $96/year.

To get an idea of what will be involved with building your site and managing its content while we do all the rest, I recommend you go through our new user’s guide: https://wordpress.com/learn/

In just a few quick steps, you’ll learn about all the best and most useful features of WordPress.com, with lots of screenshots and videos.

You can also browse our support documentation at https://wordpress.com/support/

And we have additional courses available at https://wpcourses.com/ and webinars at https://wordpress.com/webinars/

Also, if you want us to build your site for you, we have an option detailed at https://wordpress.com/do-it-for-me/?utm_campaign=happiness which is available for a one-time non-recurring $499 fee.

Please let us know if you have any more questions!
