Word Press publicize feature has suddenly stopped working on Facebook
-
Overnight, the word press sharing/publicize feature has stopped displaying properly on my Facebook page. Up until today, I used to see a title, my featured photo, then a summary of the post contents. Now, as of this morning, all I see is the title and a shortened URL. I didn’t change any settings anywhere. Can you tell me what has happened and how to fix it? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
We are in the process of updating and improving how posts are publicized to Facebook. Yesterday we experienced a glitch where some posts were sent without all of the content (such as the image). Sorry about that! However, that issue should be fixed now.
For posts that were publicized incorrectly, you can delete the publicized posts from your Facebook timeline and then share the post manually. That should fix how it appears on Facebook.
If you notice that this or other issues come up again with your publicized posts on Facebook, please let me know so we can investigate it further. Thanks!

Hi – it still isn’t fixed, Rachel. Another post went out this morning – it had more content this time, but still no image. I have a pretty active group on Facebook that jumps on the content as soon as it is published on my page there, so republishing manually looks awkward at best. If you could investigate further I would appreciate it!

Hi there,
Thanks for letting me know, and sorry that it wasn’t fixed! I reported this to our team so we can investigate what’s going on here. I’ll let you know as soon as I have more information about it. :)

Hi – day 3 and the blogs still look terrible on Facebook, and still no images. I am going to have to stop using the tool if it can’t be fixed but I really don’t have time to do things manually – please help! Thanks! Shannon

Hi Shannon,
I’m sorry this is continuing to be a problem for you! Our team is looking into it, and I will let you know as soon as I have more information about what’s happening.

I now see photos in the posts – thanks!
But…now my RSS feed has stopped working. No matter what I try, it does not populate to my social media accounts.
What is my RSS feed – could you please confirm and I can see if that works? All the listed feeds in wordpress support give me this error message in three different browser tests:
“This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”
Help! Thanks – SHannon

Hi Shannon,
Your RSS feed is at this link: http://loveandfeathers.com/feed/
The message you see isn’t an error message — that’s how RSS feeds are normally displayed in the browser.
You mentioned that the RSS feed doesn’t populate to your social media accounts. Can you explain a little more about what isn’t working? I’d be happy to take a look!

Hi – thanks. That is the RSS I am using – I have it set up in WordPress to auto-forward to one of my Twitter accounts, and I use HootSuite to auto-forward the feed posts to my other Facebook and Twitter and Linked In accounts. But in the last few days none of the posts have auto-forwarded. I have no idea why that is happening, especially now that I know I am using the right RSS link. I wish I could tell you more….any insight would be very welcomed. Also, if WordPress was ever thinking of allowing bloggers to send posts to more than one social media account (for instance I have 3 Twitter and 3 Facebook accounts) that would be very much appreciated. Right now I use HootSuite as a backup because WordPress only allows publication to one of each.

Hi Shannon – You can connect your WordPress.com blog to as many Twitter accounts as you want. After you’ve connected one, if you go back to Settings->Sharing, you’ll see an Add New button by Twitter. You’ll need to log into your other Twitter account, and then click that and authorize the second connection, etc.
You can also connect as many Facebook accounts as you like in the same way, but they all have to be under separate profiles.
For example, you can connect two different profiles, a profile and a page associated with a second profile, etc., but you cannot connect a profile and a page associated with that same profile. Does that make sense?
-
Yes, that makes sense. Unfortunately all of my pages are associated with a single profile, so that won’t help for my needs. Thanks.
-
Now the photos are showing up sideways – as in a photo that would ordinarily display vertically is horizontal. So I’m back to manual adjustments. I hope this can be resolved soon!!
-
And for about every third post, there is no photo but the WordPress app displays the logo for my blog (which is a flying cartoon bird). Is there any resolution in sight – I had many months where the app worked perfectly, and now it is a total mess. Thanks – Shannon

Hi Shannon,
For the issue you’re having with the HootSuite app, you’ll need to contact their support.
For publicize, and for issues with how Facebook is pulling images in general, I recommend reading this comment. It’s a very clear explanation of what’s going on right now and what we’re currently looking into:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/mostly-a-failure?replies=3#post-4821057That explanation is specific to self-hosted WordPress sites. It mostly applies to your site, too, but we add all the necessary metadata for you, so you don’t need to check that it’s correctly included in your theme.
Our developers are continuing to work with Facebook on why Facebook is still sometimes displaying the wrong image even though we send them the correct one. I don’t have an update beyond what’s in that comment above yet, though. I’m sorry for the frustration, and I’ll keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

Oh what a bummer – Facebook strikes again. Thank you for sending that link so I can understand what is happening (and who is to blame). I hope you can find a workaround since I noticed in the link that Facebook had changed the priority status of fixing the bug to “low” – which probably means “never” in their queue system.

Hi – now my followers button is not working properly. A few days ago my blog showed over 1,000 followers. Now it says I have 98 followers. What is happening and how can I fix it? Thanks!
-
Hi Shannon – That total includes any followers from services you have connected through Publicize, so if you’ve disconnected your Facebook connection, then the total follower count will go down by however many Facebook followers you have.
