  I think I posted this question in the wrong place previously.

  I have a standard wp.com site. Can anyone tell me if there is an option to (1) see if there is a CATCHA screening for comments and (2) if so, how to turn it off. Unable to get to the bottom of this problem. Thanks for any help.

  No there is no Captcha on WP blogs simply because no scripts are allowed for security reasons. You need to approve all comments before they are published. Your comment box looks like this:

  You do not need to approve all comments before they are published. You control this from your Dashboard
