WordAds custom domain?
-
If I have one complaint about WordPress, it’s that, most of the time, you write your information for technocrats, rather than for us ordinary folks who have a decent computer knowledge but are technically challenged. I am interested in WordAds. However, the moment you said ‘domain mapping’ (why not just: change your blog’s url to a domain url? and DNS, you lost me. The way I see it is that, if I sign up for a custom domain, my domain name at WordPress is no longer umandel.wordpress.com but umandel.com. Is this right?
Also, this will cost me $17 a year, and if I want to keep the domain private, it’s $8 more. What does it mean to keep it private? I couldn’t find an explanation.
Further, does Federated pick the ads to put on my blog, or do I have a say? I mean they may never be interested in my blog, but you never know. Do you have an example of what some of their ads look like?
Thanks,
Ursula
Blog url: http://umandel.wordpress.com/ -
Hi Ursula,
With the domain mapping upgrade, you still have an underlying .wordpress.com URL. The custom domain name masks that URL, so to speak. For example, your current URL is umandel.wordpress.com — with the custom domain upgrade, you could map umandel.com to your WordPress.com blog, which would be the URL that visitors to your site would see.
It is $17 per year for a public registration, and $25 per year for a private registration. For some more information on what a private registration does, please see:
