Wordads earnings crushed

  • Unknown's avatar

My earnings totally crashed in june, in every of my 5 blog i had more than 90% fall.

To make only an example on my site radiomusik.it I got the same impressions of may (600.000 approx) but 7 USD earnings instead of 108.

In june 2017 with the same amount of impressions I got 288 USD.

Is there some kind of mistake in my account or did you stop to sell adverts? When I open my site I always see banners of some sort. Could you please explain what’s happening? I can’t obviously keep 4 banners to make only 7 dollars with 600.000 impressions….

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi htmacao –

Thanks for getting in touch. Everything looks to be alright on your account.

Ads can fluctuate quite a bit depending on how much advertisers are willing to pay.

    Scandalous!!

I confirm what reported by htmacao, in June 2018 there was a total collapse of earnings. In my case on two websites that have gotten a huge amount of views compared to May 2018 (in one case, three times the advertising displays), earnings have crushed!

Have you had any general problems or is it a problem that only affects some accounts?
I’m seriously considering taking away your ad units.

I hope you will give clear explanations to all the users involved.

I had already many fluctuation in my 18 months with wordads, but I can’t stand to go from 836 USD to 35 comparing june 2017 and june 2018

It’s (with approx same impression amount) a lowering by 95% and I don’t think this can be included in a normal fluctuation. At least you should explain how one million impressions can generate 17 dollars only (atleticalive.it data): this is a 0,017 cpm and I don’t think I’ve ever seen something lower than that in my life

    Hi there,

I’ve asked the WordAds team to help take a look at the accounts in this thread. As previously mentioned there are many factors that can contribute to ads earnings being lower than expected. Once I hear back I’ll post the findings.

Thank you very much, bdukes. It’s important to know if there is a problem (and there obviously is one) and who’s responsible for it so that we can correct it. I can also leave the program and switch to other companies if there’s no other way, but first I’d like to explore the matter. I had one great year with Words (since november 2017) then all of suddenly revenues started to go down. Now in this last month a 95% decrease that mus be explained. At the moment Adsense would give me 30x more revenue (not difficult if you start from 0.15 cpm!)

    * 0.015 cpm I meant

    Hi folks,

The WordAds team are still looking at your accounts and we’ll be in touch when we have more information from you.

I confirm what was said by htmacao.
Compared to last year the numbers speak clearly.

    Example:
(date) – (earnings) – (advertising views)

    09/2017 – $202.76 – 143.020
    10/2017 – $311.71 – 118.417
    11/2017 – $324.95 – 153.299

    04/2018 – $111.67 – 137.390
    05/2018 – $153.69 – 154.331
    06/2018 – $84.10 – 240.157

It is clear that there is some problem…

A great shame your lack of transparency, because the potential of WordAds are many. I hope you will give explanations, because can not work with a company that does not provide information and with such fluctuating results.

  • htmacao – AdSense is one of the bidders in your account, as is Google Adx so I don’t believe switching to AdSense will help.

I imagine you are familiar with GDPR. This is having a major impact on sites like yours that have European readership. When readers don’t opt-in we show untargeted ads and these pay-out at a much lower rate than targeted ads.

We are testing new forms of consent to see if we can improve opt-in but now that GDPR is active in Europe publishers will not be seeing the rates they enjoyed prior to GDPR.

Thank you for the explanation, but I simply can’t believe that this provoked a -96% revenues. Turning back to Adsense, they are showing approx same rates as before so I don’t think GDPR is the real problem, or at least not the one and only.

I’m really sad, I had a great time with Wordads and I will certainly stay with WordPress with my blogs, but I’ll have to switch to other Ad companies: going down to 0.01 CPM would make me bankrupt when I can easily have 0.30/0.50 at least elsewhere.

Please let me know if something changes in the future. I would love to go back to Wordads as thing return as they were in mid-2017

  • abdirisack021 – If you are writing about the WordAds earnings we need for you to include the site address in your reply.

Jonburke thanks for the explanation, but using other companies (eample: clickio, google adsense ecc.) this problem did not occur.

Is it possible that everything is caused by GDPR? It seems a bit ‘strange … Anyway at the end of the month I will remove your ad units on my two main websites (with much regret), under these conditions it is unsustainable to continue.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have problems with my website http://www.dueminutidiarte.com as well
From May to June earnings have dropped by 70% , despite the advertising views were basically the same
It seems unlikely to me that the GDPR might have influenced the earnings so badly and with such an immediate effect.
Can you please check it out?

    Example:
(date) – (earnings) – (advertising views)

    06-2018 – $51.38 – 680.807
    05-2018 – $166,87 – 763.770
    04-2018 – $126,81 – 465.934

    Hi @loviscomarco,

Your earning report for June is correct. In addition to the GDPR the amount that advertisers are willing to pay to run ads on your site also fluctuates from month to month.
