wordads fluctuations?
-
has anyone else seen fluctuations in their ads numbers in the last few days? my november cpm and revenue went up a couple of days ago from what had been displayed at the end of the month. and for the first 8 days of december i was also being shown fairly high cpm rates. then tonight it all the numbers went down again–for november and for december so far.
anyone have any idea what’s going on?

yes. I noticed that too. CPM increased yesterday for the days that have passed including November then today, those went down .

Hey there,
These rates can change from day to day, even hour to hour.
The online ads system is similar to the stock market where advertisers bid in real time.
Unless you have the same exact number of visitors from the same countries every single month and advertisers are valuing those visitors equally every month, you’ll never be able to calculate a consistent rate just by earnings vs. impression totals.
There’s a bit more information here: https://wordads.co/faq/

that’s not what i am describing. the posted cpm and revenue for all of november changed (went up) a few days ago and then last night went back down again. similarly, for the first 8 days of december the cpm shown at the end of each day was higher than what it got reset to last night.

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching back out.
We know this seems odd, but these are the fluctuations that are expected when using WordAds and the behaviour is experienced with other adverting networks.
I hope this helps to clear up any confusion there.

i’m not sure that we’re talking about the same “this”. i’ve been on wordads for more than a year now and have never seen this happen before.
please keep in mind that i am not confused by the fact that the cpm and revenue for the same number of ads displayed is usually different from day to day. i completely understand why that is.
what happened in this instance is that the reported cpm and revenue for november changed after the fact in early december. my reported revenue for november at the end of the month was $25’ish. a few days into december this rose to $33’ish with many of the days in november now showing higher cpm rates and revenue than had been reported before. at the same time cpm and revenue for days in december were consistently coming in a LOT higher than usual. all of this was until last night when november’s cpm and revenue were reset back to $25’ish for the month (with all the days dropping back to what had initially been reported). and all the cpm/revenue already reported for days in december also dropped back down last night. all of this happened retroactively.

Hi there,
Thank you for the clarification. There have been several reports of this issue and I have reached out to the ads team regarding this.
Once I hear back from them, I will be sure to respond here with an update. Thank you again!

thanks. would appreciate if the numbers could be reset to the higher ones. i preferred those…

Hi there,
After some investigation into the discrepancy between your earnings estimates, and your actual earnings, it appears the issue can be traced back to a configuration issue we had with our ad server. It appears that the earnings estimates were being calculated differently than the actual earnings and that displayed higher than expected earnings on your end. We’re still in the process of finalizing actual earnings for the month of November, so it’s likely that the earnings you’re seeing will update again. However, the lower earnings amounts you’re currently seeing are likely much closer to the final actual earnings number.
It’s important to remember that what you’re seeing on your dashboard are earnings estimates and may or may not have any correlation to actual earnings. Actual earnings can vary widely from estimated earnings and the actual earnings are not typically displayed until at least 2 weeks after month-end.
I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused, but I hope this helps! If you have any other questions we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to help!

thanks.
i will note, however, that whatever discrepancies there have been in the past between estimates and actuals have been miniscule/not worth noting. indeed, most months there’s no change between what is shown after the end of the last day of the month and what is added to the outstanding payment total two weeks later.
this was on a whole other scale and in any case involved two changes in the numbers: first from the original shown to a higher number and then back down from that higher number. nothing like that has ever happened before.

You’re right, this is different than the previous fluctuations you’ve described. We’ve got the issue that caused this resolved now, and things should return to the status quo. Thanks for your understanding.
