WordAds Inquiry

    What constitutes “moderate to high traffic” in relation to qualifying for WordAds? Does my blog qualify? Also, can I choose which companies to advertise for?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I don’t know what defines traffic for WordAds

    You can’t choose which advertisers appear on your blog – advertisers are the ones that make the choices – sometimes it has to do with your demographics (age, income etc) – the subject of your blog – a hiking blog might get more hiking equipment ads – however I don’t know how fine the filters are for WordAds

    Thank you for the response.

    For example, a certain company has contacted me asking if it is possible for them to advertise on my blog. Is it possible for me to select it in particular?

    No. There is no upgrade your can purchase here that allows you to initiate advertising contracts yourself on your free hosted WordPress.com blog.

    You cannot post any advertising on your blog here at WordPress.com. There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. You apply to WordAds by asking for an invitation. You wait a long time.
    WordAds Staff check out your blog and if and only if it qualifies they contact you and implement ads on your blog.

    Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.

    There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that changes any of that. If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising, affiliate links, paid or sponsored content you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org

    In answer to “moderate to high” traffic….. someone said unless you are getting at least 15,000 page views/day you are unlikely to get looked at by Wordads.

    With regards making revenue through advertising from people that contact you as a third-party or selling equipment through your blog, etc. Then you need to consider hosting your blog yourself (around $5-$10 a month for most decent host providers) and then install WordPress on to it yourself and transfer any of the subscribers over to it. It will cost you at least $70+ a year for this option but it is the only option you have if you want the freedom and flexibility to add your own advertising and revenue streams. Unless you have around 500+ page views/day I would say it you will be unlikely to make enough money via this route to pay for your hosting costs though. But then again, sometimes when paying hosting costs is draining your wallet, it gives you that added incentive to push harder to make it a bigger success.

    Best of luck with your blog :)

    @humourhive
    I meant to type 1,500 page views daily and not 15,000 into that other thread which is now a closed thread.
