Wordads Rates Plummeting
-
As I had a decent December, and had enjoyed Wordads CPM rates — even on BAD months — of .50 and up — I am a bit shocked that as my efforts to boost traffic — almost entirely from US and North America — have paid dividends, Wordads is mysteriously DISCOUNTING ad rates progressively, it seems, month by month. I’ve seen over $1.94 CPM rates in previous years, and now regularly see daily rates of laughably below .20. A post-Christmas fall-off might be expected, but this “Everything must go/fire sale” PLUNGE seems entirely unjustifiable, as well as counter-productive — dis-incentivizing hard work and marketing. It’s reached the point where I am having to consider the almost daily offers I get from outside providers — providing I upgrade my site to take my own ads served by others. Or jumping to Foursquare.
Seriously, if you think the same demographic audience I am reaching — only LARGER — is worth so little, you need to rethink your ad sales strategy. I appreciate the new ad rate transparency, but it mainly serves to highlight how you folks are discounting audience WE are bringing you and generally screwing over your content creators. Your sales people — or logarithm — is getting OWNED by the ad buyers. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I feel the same thing and would make your words mine as I checked tonight my ads revenue. What is happening with WordAds??? Is there anybody here to help clarifying what’s going on?

Same here. My cpm rates are just collapsing. After Christmas, I experienced a massive drop in my cpm. Generally, cpm displays a clear negative trend over time.

Hi Folks –
WordAds earnings can fluctuate depending on a variety of factors:
– The amount of traffic your site gets.
– Advertisers’ budgets for the month (they tend to spend more around holidays and higher sales periods).
– Where the majority of the traffic is coming from. (North American ad placements currently pay out at a much greater level than ads from other regions.)
– How many visitors are using ad blockers. The content of your posts and pages can also effect which advertisers want to advertise and how much they will pay to advertise on your site. Advertisers generally prefer to place ads on family-friendly content.

My CPM has plummeted too. I’m earning half to a third of what I was earning a few months ago, even though the number of ads served on my blog shows a pretty consistent upward trend month on month.
It’s very demotivating. Seems like I maxed out on my earnings in December 2017, and no matter how my site views and ads served grow, as the CPM goes down, my earnings fall. Is there any point adding more content?
I’m based in the EU, but according to my stats, a good proportion of my traffic is in the US.

Hi barnabyharward –
Hopefully you saw my reply above. As stated above, there are numerous variables that effect ad pricing. I would absolutely continue to work on the site and get new content up, even experiment with different topics or post styles, or do interviews, collaborations with other bloggers etc…
