Here you have some data: you can compare the views and the related earning in 2017 and 2018. What happed? Can you please explain the reason why my earnings have dropped?

  • Hi there,

WordAds earnings can fluctuate depending on a variety of factors:

    * The amount of traffic your site gets.
    * Advertisers’ budgets for the month (they tend to spend more around holidays and higher sales periods).
    * Where the majority of the traffic is coming from. (North American ad placements currently pay out at a much greater level than ads from other regions.)
    * How many visitors are using ad blockers.

The content of your posts and pages can also effect which advertisers want to advertise and how much they will pay to advertise on your site. Advertisers generally prefer to place ads on family-friendly content.

If you get a lot of traffic from the European Union, whether or not a visitor accepts the cookie policy on your site can also have an impact, as that determines whether we can show them targeted ads which pay more, vs generic ads that pay less. Since the EU privacy laws came into effect in May last year this is probably one of the biggest factors that have impacted ads earnings across the industry, not just on WordPress.com.
