WordAds Top of Page Ad in bad location
-
I am not sure where to post this, but I have a self-hosted website, and I pay for the Security version of Jetpack. I have access to edit my theme files.
The issue I am having is that the WordAds placement for the top of page ad is honestly horrible. I have added a custom widget location to my header, directly to the right of the logo specifically for a leaderboard style ad, but the Jetpack Ads widget doesn’t give the option for that ad style, as that one can only be placed automatically.
Right now it is rendering all the way to the left, above the logo, and shifting everything down. Is there a way, using shortcodes, or any other method that I can force the leaderboard ad to render in the location I have created for it? Again, editing the theme files is not an issue, as I am self-hosted.

Hi there,
What is the URL of the site you need help with? The account you’re using to post here doesn’t own any Jetpack-connected sites, and has never bought any paid Jetpack plans from us.
Make sure you are logged into the correct WordPress.com account you used to buy your Jetpack plan. Then you can contact Jetpack support directly for help with this via the contact form at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support

Sorry, this is the correct account. My website is DarthZeiler.com. I have a widget area that I can place the top of page ad in, or I can directly edit the theme files if necessary. I don’t understand why I would need to contact support. Is there really no existing syntax, div id, or anything for theme designers to use in order to specify where the top leaderboard ad should be inserted? Heck, I am surprised that the [wordads] short code doesn’t have documentation about additional parameters that can be used to specify the ad type, such as leaderboard. If it really doesn’t allow for those additional params and an easy way to specify a location of that specific ad, that is poor design tbh.

Also, I shifted the location I want it from to the right of the logo to directly below the navigation menu. That is honestly the location that makes the most design and layout sense to me.

UPDATE: I figured it out before support could get back to me. For future reference, what I did was disabled Top Ads in the Jetpack Settings, then modified the class-wordads-sidebar-widget.php file to add ‘leaderboard’ under the $allowed_tags private static array. So I changed it from:
private static $allowed_tags = array ('mrec', 'widesckycraper');to;
private static $allowed_tags = array( 'mrec', 'wideskyscraper', 'leaderboard' );This made it so the widget allows me to insert a leaderboard ad where I actually want it to be placed. Why they didn’t allow this out of the box is beyond me, but it worked perfectly.

To clarify, this is the support forum for free sites hosted on WordPress.com. We do not offer Jetpack as a plugin here on WordPress.com, so we’re not the best folks to help with those specific questions since the plugin runs differently than the native functionality we offer on WordPress.com without a plugin.
However, there is dedicated Jetpack support that you can access for help with these questions. Since you are now under the correct account, you can access Jetpack support here:
The folks over in Jetpack support will be able to help with your WordAds questions, thanks!
