Thanks. I’ll tag the topic to call for staff attention. Please wait for staff to respond.

  • Hi there,

The username you’re posting as here, dallisonfoley2014, does not own any sites.

The site, https://thewonderfulworldofallison.wordpress.com/, belongs to a completely different username, so you’ll need to log out of this account and log in as the username that owns that site in order to make any changes to that site.

    @ kokkieh,

Why does the username dallisonfoley2014 link to the site https://thewonderfulworldofallison.wordpress.com/? I thought that would indicate that the site is the primary site of the account. Also, why does that URL appear on the forum profile of dallisonfoley2014. If a website is given there, I’ve presumed it would be the primary site.

  • @musicdoc1

The username links to whatever URL you set as the website address in the account settings. You can link any URL to your username there, regardless of whether you own it – it doesn’t even have to be a WordPress.com site. That’s also the site shown in the forum profile.

The site set as primary site is not public-facing, but is rather an internal setting for your account which determines what site is auto-selected when you click the New Post, Reblog or Press This buttons, among other things. That must be a WordPress.com or Jetpack site on which you’re a user, but you don’t have to own a site to set it as your primay either. You only need to be added as a contributor.

In the OP’s case, that site is set as their website in their profile, but they’re not even a contributor. @dallisonfoley2014 is not a contributor on any site on WordPress.com.

Hi. Thanks for the detailed explanation! I’d never been clear about either the Account Settings website address or the forum profile address, though I’ve only been able to view the latter on other members sites. Guess I’ve always figured that the Account Settings website address would have to correspond to the email address, and if it didn’t WordPress.com would recognize it and notify the member of an error. Instead, by allowing anything to be put there, especially for an inexperienced member, strikes me as like giving enough rope…

Excuse my bad grammar in the last sentence. : )

  • Haha. I agree for inexperienced users it could become confusing. But keep in mind that many WordPress.com/Gravatar users don’t necessarily blog here – they just follow and comment on WordPress.com sites while their websites are elsewhere. This feature allows them to link their username to their website no matter where it’s hosted, meaning when they comment others can find their correct site by clicking the username.
