I wonder how many of these 500 000 blogs are currently active, as opposed to a) blogs set up to grab the API key before we were allowed to register without starting a blog, b) one-post wonders, c) test blogs, d) once-active blogs now abandoned, e) deleted blogs with usernames still in the database.

Google already has Blogger and given the work they’ve put into re-coding it I doubt they’d be interested in buying Automattic. Yahoo, on the other hand…
