WordPress 2.7 – setting category for Pages
-
I’m running a WordPress.com blog. The theme I’m using (Emire) displays the category at the end of both posts and pages. For ‘Pages’ I have previously been setting this to “other”. With the upgrade to WordPress 2.7 there no longer seems to be any way to set a category for a page (I’ve checked the ‘screen options’ – there’s no category option), and new pages are defaulting to an apparently random category (not the default set for posts).
I completely appreciate that pages possibly shouldn’t have categories. Unfortunately they are part of the Emire them and, being WordPress.com, I can’t remove them.
Can they either be removed from the Emire theme, or can we get the ‘category’ box back when editing pages?

Contact staff and report that as a bug. Use the Support button, just under the forum button on your Dashboard under Help.

As far as I know, you have never been able to assign categories to pages. Is that/was that an Emire only thing?

Thanks for the suggestion raincoaster. I’ve submitted a support question.
Yes, I think it may be a Emire quirk. I suspect the theme may not have a separate ‘pages’ template, so it just uses the same code as it does for posts – hence the category shows up.

With version 2.5, we can use Category Page plugins but I don’t know how to map category with page anymore with version 2.7 :(
-
rtom – we don’t use plugins here.
TSP – they updated themes a while back that were showing categories on pages. I thought they had fixed them all to keep them from showing but I guess they missed one.

@rtom-we can’t use plugins on WordPress.COM blogs. You must be talking about a self-hosted blog.
WordPress.COM or WordPress.ORG – The Difference -
Just realised I never posted to say this has been fixed and Emire no longer shows a ‘category’ for pages.
