WordPress account dissapeared after remapping?

Hello – I’m asking this question for a friend who was essentially ‘locked out’ of WordPress when they remapped the domain of their website. They should still have a WordPress account, as they never deleted or deactivated the account – but WordPress now doesn’t even seem to recognize the username or user email.

Up until the domain remapping they were successfully able to log into WordPress with their username and password. The username email is (email visible only to moderators and staff) (now suddenly wordpress claims that there is no account associated with that email?). I don’t know how a remap could affect the account?

Their domain host is GoDaddy & I helped them remap to a Squarespace website a few weeks ago.

I am trying to help them troubleshoot this issue so that they can have access to their WordPress account & view old blog posts that were published on their old website.

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated!

  • What is the URL of the site in question?

    The URL is brookfordfarm.com

It is remapped to a Squarespace site now, and originally registered with Godaddy.

All I can think of is perhaps there was a more ‘original’ wordpress username that was used to build the website – and now that is the only one that will allow login access?

I wish I could give more specific info – the person who built the WordPress website no longer works for the business that is experiencing this problem. I’m just not sure if this is a common problem or if I’m just missing something obvious!

  • Was the original site a WordPress.com site? Or a WordPress site hosted with GoDaddy?

I believe it was a WordPress site hosted with GoDaddy.

  • I’m afraid that is nothing WordPress.com staff can help with. While similar and related, WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress.org sites are different.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

WordPress.com staff does not have access to any other webhost’s servers or your WordPress files on other servers. I would encourage you to contact GoDaddy and see if they can help. You might also look for help here:

Oh! I understand now that because they had a third party host they were using wordpress.org and not wordpress.com. That makes sense – thank you for helping me clarify this! I will continue to look for help via godaddy or wordpress.org forums.

Thank you for your time! I really appreciate it!
