WordPress Ad Comment
-
Tonight, I opened my Dashboard to see a new comment notification. Much to my dismay, it was not a new comment, but an advertisement for WordPress.com Premium. Are we now going to be receiving ads regularly from WordPress masquerading as new comments?
Worse, though I have read the ad and manually marked it as such, every time I open the comment dropdown list, the ad reappears as an unread comment. It will not go away.
If we absolutely must put up with advertising in our comment feed, can we at least allow them to be marked as read so they go away?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Maybe if we all marked the spam ads as spam – Akismet would start sending the ads to spam?
I also found it annoying, have not been back to my site so I have not seen the in your face feature of it, but sadly it does not surprise me, Welcome to the “new” WordPress.COM

Just checked today, and indeed, the WordPress ad comment is again marked as Unread, even though I have marked it as read.
Even though it’s not a “comment” per se, as it doesn’t show up in the Comment section of the Dashboard, it still shows up in the drop down, and marks itself Unread every single time. And because it’s not a “normal” comment, I can’t mark it as spam. It simply keeps reappearing, Unread.

Hi @ecumenicallife, thanks for the feedback. While Notifications can show more than just comments, this one was not supposed to stay “unread.” Sorry about that. That’s been fixed.
