WordPress address change

  I created another WordPress address, which just redirects to my original site. I want to replace the original name with the new one.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  That would have been easy to accomplish by following the instructions on Change a Blog Address had you not created the new website with the name you now intend to use on the old site. Attempting to change the old address at My Blogs to the address of the new site will certainly fail, with the error message being that the site already exists. You might ask WP staff if there’s anything they can do. To alert staff, add a “modlook” tag to the right sidebar here, and then wait patiently for a response.

  An alternative would be to export the content of the old site to the new.

  When you change a blog address https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/ you purchase a site redirect upgrade to redirect the links. https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ And if you do not do that, then all links to the content under the original URL will produce 404 (page not found) errors when clicked no matter where they appear on the internet.

  Yes, I’ve discovered these things, and read all the posts I could find to figure this out, which is why I’m asking here. Long ago, I created a WordPress account using a Hotmail address, intending to blog for fun – but never got any further than creating a header. When I recently decided I need a website (basically a CV and samples) vs. a blog site I did exactly what you said I should NOT have done, @musicdoc1, and as a result, seeing that my new email address is of course taken.
  I have no content to move. I don’t want the current site template/format, and I don’t want my old email address/user name to appear — but can’t start over. Does that help?

  Hello! about that, if you change the address name, you will also lost all the content that already exists?

  You may change the theme of the new website to that of the older site.
