WordPress Administrator access

Hello,
Good day!
We have a paid membership website created using WordPress.
We noticed just last week that our new members are having administrator role which didn’t happened before.
We have checked the New User Default Role on WP General settings and we can see it is being set to student though.
I’m not sure what happened so we are asking for help. The only plugin which may possibly can update user role is user role editor and it seems the said plugin is up to date.
