wordpress and adsense-has it begun?
-
i am visiting wordpress after a long time and i am wondering has wordpress started with adsense on its free blogs?????
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
WordPress.COM has had adsense ads on our free hosted blogs for over two years.
You can read all about it here http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2006/09/06/on-ads/ and here

As far as bloggers being able to put adcents (intentionally misspelled) on their blogs, there is no change. We still cannot do it. I used to care and did not want ads on the blogs I visited that were hosted here, they make me crazy, but I don’t care anymore. I have Adblockplus on the two browsers I use and I never see ads anywhere anymore.
I wouldn’t get my hopes up on being able to add ads here anytime soon, but like many times before, Matt might pop in and make me look silly by saying it is in the works. Bottom line, don’t look for them until you see the announcement (or until Matt pops into this thread and makes me a fool).
-
Im totally confused. It says that adsense isnt allowed, and now someone says that its been going on for 2 years. Which is it?
-
Read the FAQ which timethief linked to:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/10/07/why-are-there-ads-on-my-blog/If you would rather that no ads ever appeared on your blog, there is now a paid upgrade for this.
If you want to install your own adsense ads on your blog, you need to be somewhere that isn’t wordpress.com.
-
Fair enough, but what about plug ins? Im not that technical so i have no clue what these are. Is there maybe a way of putting adverts on my blog with plugins?
-
Plugins are not allowed at wordpress.COM, and even if you figure out how to add ads to your blog, it will quickly be deleted or suspended because wordpress scans for ads. They will find you and then you will be sad.
-
I think i will be sad. Its a shame. Does anyone know where i can have my own adsense (and other) adverts?
-
You need a self-hosted blog you pay for.
As rosclarke said: If you want to install your own adsense ads on your blog, you need to be somewhere that isn’t wordpress.com.

Ill check out blogger then. Is there any disadvantage in going with one that isnt self hosted (whatever self hosted means)? And if i decide to switch to another in future, is there a way to transfer everything, including the dates that each post was written?
-
And what about the software that you can download on the main page here? Whats that all about, and does it make any difference?
-
You can’t download any software from the main page here. It sounds as though you are looking at wordpress.org, in which case you need to be in their support forum: http://wordpress.org/support
-
The main page here and at worddpress.ORG are very different. The sticky at the top of this forum will explain much:

-
Its all so complicated. To make it easier, heres basically what i need :
– A blog. Somewhere where i can post thoughts/opinions etc, and have other people comment on what i write.
– Advertising by adsense and whatever else is out there.
– The ability to include html.
– Free.
– The ability to transfer everything to another blog in future if i find somewhere better, with all dates of each post intact.
-
Well, you don’t need wordpress.com then. Good luck with finding somewhere that suits you better.
-
I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere that fulfils the criteria that i mentioned above. Blogger seems to do so, but because im dumb, i dont exactly know (and id rather not spend an hour trying to find out, as ive been racking my brains all day). Does it?

We can’t possibly give advice on other blogging platforms. This is the wordpress.com support forum.

Since we don’t use blogger here, the support forum there would be your best bet for answers about blogger.
