WordPress and SmugMug Theme Compatibility

    Hi,

Completely new to blogging but looking to make a start and, having looked at a number of other hosts, WordPress is the one I’ve chosen to run with.

My main website is hosted by SmugMug and I’m going to change the overall appearance of that within the next few weeks, however, one of the things I wish to get sorted ASAP is having the theme of my SmugMug site appear the same as the theme on my WordPress blog.

Just to clarify: What I’m referring to here by “theme” is purely the background colour, be it plain, pictured, or patterned.

Having been through all the SmugMug and WordPress themes respectively, I can see that there are no exact matches to be found (please steer me correct if I’ve missed something though!), so what I’m thinking of doing is uploading a picture of my own that I can use as my background theme on SmugMug, but of course this will only work for me if I can upload and use the same custom background for my theme here on WordPress.

If someone could please let me know if this is possible and, if so, instruct or perhaps direct me to a tutorial here that explains how I can do this, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time in advance.

    Ashley

Still hoping for a response, please!

You’re out of luck. External themes, even WordPress themes, cannot be used on a WordPress.com blog. On WP.com, you have a choice of all the themes on the Dashboard under Appearance->themes and no more. Some have customization options built in.

Many thanks for your response Raincoaster! OK, I’ve selected a WP theme that’s at least somewhat similar to my SmugMug theme, so I’ll rest with that for now.

Not sure if I need to post a new thread each time I have another question, but I’ll try asking it here and see how it goes:

Over on my SmugMug website I designed a custom navigation/menu bar that I’d very much like to import straight into my WordPress blog page. If you or anyone else here has already been through this (i.e. has a SmugMug site already linked to their blog over on WordPress), I’d be ever so grateful if you could either explain how I can import my SmugMug custom nab bar or at least provide me with a link to either a written or video tutorial.

    Many thanks in advance!

P.S. The theme I’ve chosen to go with on WordPress is Piano Black.

If it’s an unrelated issue, a new thread is best. I have no idea how Smugmug works at all, but maybe a Custom Menu would work? See the Support docs for details. http://en.support.wordpress.com/

    Thanks again Raincoaster!

I have in fact already read through the “Customize My Site” support page and related links, but didn’t find anything to address the importing of custom menu bars.

I’ll post up another thread on this question. Thanks again for your valued time and support. Wishing you a great weekend ahead :^)
