WordPress and template watermark

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello there, I recently started a WordPress and have been investing into my WordPress account to make it more flexible and similar to the other website I host through GoDaddy.
Unfortunately it would seem that the “follow” button to sign up for my mailing list, in the lower right-hand corner is quickly replaced by a WordPress watermark as you scroll down the page, and also names the template I’m using (Singl).

As I’m sure you can understand, this is not desirable on many levels and I was hoping that by paying for a “Premium Account” which promised to remove ads that these watermarks would be removed and only the “follow” button would remain.

Is this a limitation of this particular theme, or WordPress itself? Is there a way for me to remove the watermarks via CSS?

    Thank you for your time,
    Ian

Hi there! Thanks for getting in touch.

That text isn’t considered advertising, and is required to be displayed according to our terms of service:
    http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

Note that even sites hosted through our VIP program, such as the TED blog, display a credit to WordPress.com in the footer.
(See the bottom of http://blog.ted.com/ for an example)

Changing your theme to another one my give you more options for the placement of your mailing list button.

Let me know if you have any additional questions about this.

Thanks! I actually wasn’t concerned about the watermark, you guys do great work and deserve credit for it…I just don’t see why it has to replace the button to sign up for the mailing list? It would make more sense to place the watermark somewhere it can stay, or have it appear as the page scrolls down, and leave the mailing list button in place for those who want to sign up after reading a few posts…it’s a win/win!

Hi! Sorry for misinterpreting. That’s a good catch- we don’t want to obscure your follow button. Our theme development team is going to look into this.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

  • Hi there,

The follow button is now being displayed as the page scrolls down.

    Cheers,
    Thomas
