WordPress Android app abruptly stopped working

  • Unknown's avatar

My WordPress Android app (a Razr Maxx HD through Verizon) suddenly stopped working. I tried many things, including uninstalling and reinstalling, and it no longer lets me in. It no longer likes my password. I’m slightly annoyed because it worked a treat up till this afternoon. Any thoughts? Thanks. Scott McKinney (scottmac56) namebrandketchup.com

Once you’ve installed the WordPress app, follow these steps to clear the app cache data: http://techably.com/clear-app-cache-data-on-android-devices/3970/

This did not help me at all.

What kind of error/warning message do you get? Otherwise reset your password at https://en.wordpress.com/settings/password/ and try to login again using your new password.

Okay, here’s the deal. Bear in mind that this was working just beautifully until a few days ago.

I click on the W icon and there’s a new “splash page” that wasn”t there before. The big W icon, and the words “Start blogging in seconds” (yeah, right).

Three options. “Start a new blog at WordPress.com.” Well, that’s not me, I already have a blog. Then two more: “Add blog hosted at WordPress.com” and “Add self-hosted WordPress blog.” Well, I’m not sure which of those is me because I recently paid the upcharge to make my http “namebrandketchup.com” without the WordPress suffix. So I decide to try them both.

Option #2, “Add blog hosted…” I tap that. It asks for my username and password. I key them both in. The box says: “Connection Error. XMLRPC Fault: This account has two step authentication enabled. Please configure an application-specific password to use with this application, [code 425]." Below the button says OK, so I click it. Back to the login page.

Okay, on to Option 3. "Add self-hosted..." This time it calls for Blog URL, username and password. In they go. The box says: "Error. Sorry, could not connect to the WordPress site. Please try again later." The OK button returns me again to the login page.

I attempted your above advice and cleared the app cache which didn't do a bit of good.

Did something change? As mentioned, this worked a treat until about five days ago. I really enjoyed being able to edit from my Android phone and would like to get back to being able to do that.

Any guidance you can provide will be gratefully appreciated.

PS: I would really rather not reset my password.

You need to select “Add blog hosted at WordPress.com”.

Go to this page on a computer: https://en.wordpress.com/settings/security/ and click on the [Generate Password] button under Application Passwords. Use that password to log in with the WordPress for Android app.
