WordPress as a fully functioning CMS
-
Hello.. I am somewhat new to wordpress… but am pretty handy with editing the CMS… (see my blog in the link). But I am taking on a few freelancing projects and have been throwing around the idea of making wordpress function as a CMS..My questions below.
1. We already have a URL purchased, how can i transition wordpress into this url?
2. Is there a way I can download ALL the source files to edit the html/php? I know I can edit css through the appearance menu, but what about editing all of the site?
3. I plan on using some pretty heavy PHP/mySQL for the site… is there a plug-in for wordpess to handle php/mysql calls? Thanks!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress as a fully functioning CMS
The free software from wordpress.org which can stand alone for self hosting can achieve this. However, here at wordpress.com we are all working on a wpMU multiuser blogging platform and we have restrictions. We cannot access or edit our underlying shared template files.
(1) You can’t. You cannot embed a wordpress.com blog into a site.
(2) No. See above – we cannot eaccess, l;et alone edit the underlaying php or html in our templates at wordpress.com.
(3) There is no DTP access to wordpress.com blogs, hence, we have no individual plugins and cannot upload themes etc.Advice: You will not find your needs met at wordpress.com. You will find what you want by hiring a web host and downloading a free software install from wordpress.org.

Here are some refernce links to the wordpress.com support documentation that are relevant:

No plugins http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/ -

Wow thanks so much for the very detailed reply…
Never did know the difference between the two..
Thanks so much!

You’re welcome. I wish everyone would take the time to learn the differences first. If they did there would not be any unhappy campers because they would have had all the relevant information to make their decision about either getting a free hosted wordpress.com blog and living with the restrictions, or hiruinga web host and downloading free software from wordpress.org from the get go.
Best wishes for happy blogging. :)
