WordPress asks me to follow blogs that I already follow

  • Unknown's avatar

When I am on wordpress reader I can see the articles of the blogs that I follow: when I click on them I see that some of these blogs do not result followed by me but actually, I follow them. in addition, I think that all these people that I follow and that wordpress says that I don’t follow cannot see my articles on their reader. In fact I followed my blog, so in my reader there were my articles. Now, when I try to follow my blog, wordpress removes my follow right after, and so there aren’t my articles in my reader anymore.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey saveandflyblog!

Your WordPress Reader will show you the articles of the blogs that you follow. The owners of the blogs that you see in your Reader may not necessarily be following you back. If they aren’t specifically following your blog then your articles won’t show up in their Reader.

If you’re looking to double check if you are currently following a site or not, you can click the Manage button next to “Followed Sites” in Reader. This will pull up a list of all the sites that you currently follow.

For more information about Reader you can check out this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/reader/

I think this may answer your question. If not then I’ll need a few more details so I can better understand what you’re looking to do.

Hi, thanks for you answer! But the problem is: in the moment in which I try to follow a blog, wordpress removes my follow to that blog right after. The same thing happens when I try to follow my own blog: I can do it in a first moment, but when I reload the page it results that I don’t follow my blog. Because of this reason my articles don’t show up in my own reader, and I’m afraid that some of the followers of my blog can’t see my articles on their reader too.

Ah. I just pulled up your site and tested out the follow button. Everything appears to be working normally. It shows up in my Followed Sites and I can see your posts in my Reader. That means that your followers should also be able to see your posts in Reader with no issue :)

Based on what you’re saying it sounds like there might be an issue with your browser. Something is stopping the follow button from functioning when you try to use it. Can you do me a favor and try opening WordPress in another browser(for example Internet Explorer, Chrome, etc) and let me know if the follow button works there?

I didn’t make the problem clear, so I give you an example: let’s suppose that I started to follow a blog (that I will call blog A to be clearer) four months ago, and that the owner of the blog A followed me back… After four months the articles of the blog A show up in my Reader, I click on them to read them but it turns out that I don’t follow the blog A… Now I check the list of the blogs that I follow, and I find the blog A, dated four months ago. But what happens now? The articles that I post don’t show up in the reader of the blog A that followed me back.
In addition, if I try to follow again the blog A, that on the general list of the blogs that I follow appears as followed but in the reader as not followed, in a first moment it appears followed, in a second moment not followed.
All those things happen with the blogs that I follow since more time and that have followed me back.
In short: the blogs that I actually follow don’t result as followed when I click on them in the reader, and all of this happens with the blogs that I follow since more time.

Sorry, I meant: all those things happen with the blog that I follow since more time and that have followed or not followed me back.

I did some more research and it looks like it’s possible to hit a follow limit where the system detects something odd in how you’re following sites(too many follows, too fast, etc.) and may trigger some security features that disable your ability to follow sites.

I don’t have a way of checking this though so I’m adding the modlook tag to this thread. The WordPress.com staff will take a look at the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hi @saveandflyblog, and thanks for your help here, @gsmumbo.

@saveandflyblog can you send links for a few of the sites you’re seeing this trouble with?
