Yes. On the dashboard Tools page, click to create an Export file. Be sure it includes all media, comments etc. Do this on a regular basis.

The only thing this does not include is media (images, etc.) These should be backed up separately if you feel the need.
Most people don’t back up personally and rely on WordPress.com to back up for them. I haven’t had any problems with lost data in six years!
