WordPress Blocked in our School District
-
Hey guys, Just an FYI, our entire school district has blocked all WordPress pages. From our IT tech: ‘WordPress is blocked because we received a security alert about an unusual number of word press websites being infected with ransomware. If you google wordpress and ransom, you will see the articles. If it looks like they are getting this cleaned up and/or contained, we will unblock.’
I hope you guys can fix the issue. If possible, please let me know if/when it’s fixed so I can start using WordPress again in my classroom.
Thanks!

Hi there!
Rest assured that sites hosted on WordPress.com are safe to visit. The ransomware your IT person refers to seems to be delivered through sites that are self-hosted (meaning sites hosted on their own servers with WordPress installed) and infects users with outdated softwares installed in their computers. I totally understand the concern, and it’s only right for your IT person to take some precautionary measures. But if you can please relay to him and the people in charge that WordPress.com sites are clean and are very much safe to visit, that would be great. :)
You may also ask them to email us at support -at- wordpress.com should they need any further clarifications.
Thanks!
