  I understood that WordPress.com was free to use and I have been usimg it for some time. Now I’m getting messages asking for payment and offering different payment schemes. Have I switched to a WordPress.org by mistake?

  You may have ended up with an upgrade in your cart somehow. You should be able to get rid of that by going to https://wordpress.com/checkout and then:

  – Click “edit”
  – Click trash can icon
  – Confirm the deletion on the pop up
