WordPress.com Account Renewal
-
I had a wordpress.com account, but switched to a self-hosted blog last year.
Because I started as a WordPress.com blog, I had a bunch of wordpress.com followers who commented on my blog. When my wordpress.com subscription expired, my posts stopped appearing in the WordPress reader. I have paid for a new Personal subscription, but it doesn’t seem to be helping – my newest post hasn’t appeared in the feed. I’ve sent a couple of emails to support over the last week (most recently 48 hours ago) and haven’t heard back at all.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there:
I’m showing your last request to support was over eight months ago. Can you let us know how you got in touch and what your site URL is so we can better advise?
Thanks!
-
I sent a form via https://wordpress.com/help/contact
My domain is https://albumreviews.blog while my wordpress.com account is aphoristical.wordpress.com – I think I just need help linking them?
-
When I look at your site in the Reader, I see recent posts for your
albumreviews.blogsite: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/120672250Is the issue that your posts are not showing in the Reader for your followers? If yes, I can transfer them from
aphoristical.wordpress.comtoalbumreviews.blog. -
My followers are mostly at albumreviews.blog rather than aphoristical.wordpress.com
My comments/views for new posts dropped away suddenly at the end of February, when my previous Premium Plan lapsed. I also stopped seeing my site in the reader feed. I assumed the drop-off was due to my subscription lapsing, so I renewed it.

Hi there,
Whether or not your posts appear in Reader or go out via email to subscribers have nothing to do with whether or not you have a paid plan. Subscriptions on WordPress.com work the same for all sites, regardless of whether they’re free or paid, or whether they’re hosted on WordPress.com or connected via Jetpack. We also don’t use any sorting algorithms in Reader, but posts for all sites someone follows appear in their feed purely based on publication date.
So your plan expiring is definitely not the issue, and you also don’t need the new Personal Plan you bought from us if you’re no longer using the WordPress.com site. You can cancel that plan for a full refund from your Purchases page, keeping only the domain that you’re still using.
I see in June last year you migrated all your followers from
aphoristical.wordpress.comtoalbumreviews.blog, so all those followers are still subscribed to your site, either in the Reader or via email. The Reader feed for your site at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/120672250 shows 576 followers, which matches what I see at https://wordpress.com/people/followers/albumreviews.blog, so there isn’t a problem with people not seeing your posts in the Reader either. So I think this is just a normal fluctuation in traffic: I see from the last week in Feb to the first week in March you had around 300 fewer unique visitors, and the average number of pages viewed per visitor also dropped (i.e. individual visitors clicked around less to view other pages once actually on your site), resulting in the overall views dropping by around a 1000.
With your overall weekly visitor count numbering in the several thousand, a 300-visitor drop one week to the next isn’t huge, and not a sign of something broken. Blog traffic just fluctuates, as does engagement via comments. Also keep in mind that over the past two weeks there has been a lot of competition for people’s attention online from news about the war in Ukraine, so it’s to be expected that blogs not about that subject will have the short end of the stick in this regard :)
Let me know if you have any other questions about this.
-
I have definitely noticed the Ukrainian effect on my traffic, but I am more concerned that I used to see my posts in my feed and now I don’t – the last 3-5 haven’t appeared over the last couple of weeks.
If I expand the Followed Sites tab on the left, it shows me that I had a post 13 hours ago. But the post doesn’t show in my feed whereas it did before. While my overall traffic has dropped by about 15%, my comments from regular readers (with their own WordPress blogs) feel like they’re down by about 70% – I assume it’s from people getting email notifications or hardcore fans who know my site’s regular posting times.
Is there anything else I can check about why my posts aren’t showing in my feed?

Can you tell me the title of a missing post?
Looking at your site, it appears your most recent posts were published on 6, 8 and 10 March respectively, correct?
I see those same three posts in your site’s Reader feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/120672250, but they do appear to be missing from the main feed at https://wordpress.com/read. It appears that’s because the Reader is somehow confusing that feed with the feed for your WordPress.com site at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/127417141 – I tried following your current site’s feed in the Reader, and ended up subscribed to the other one instead.
I’ve seen something similar happen when sites on WordPress.com change their address, or more rarely, when someone switches from WordPress.com to Jetpack. But you’ve been using the Jetpack site for almost a year now, so I have no idea why it would start giving problems now.
What I can tell you is that this will need a developer to sort out, so I’ve opened a request. However, I can’t tell you how long it might take to fix.
-
Ignore my previous reply :)
I noticed you had around 8 new subscribers on the WordPress.com site, so I tried moving them to the Jetpack site to see if that makes any difference, and it appears to have worked – I can now see your posts in the main Followed Sites feed in the Reader as well as the site-specific feed I linked to above.
Can you please check on your end if it’s working for you now?
People subscribing to the WordPress.com site shouldn’t cause something like this, but to be on the safe side, I recommend you set the WordPress.com site to private so it can’t be accidentally followed again by someone new.
-
Thanks for all your thorough checking.
I’ve marked the wordpress.com site as private.
I just published an extra post “Aphoristic Album Reviews: The Missing Years”. It went live 21 minutes ago, and it’s showing on the Followed Sites bar on the left but it’s not showing in the feed.
-
Hmm, I do see your post in the Reader correctly:
Could you share a screenshot of what you see on your end? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply. Thanks!

Hi, if I go to my site’s feed it works fine (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/120672250)
But in my main feed, it shows on the list of posts on the left:
But it should be between the “I Think It’s Interesting” post and the “A History of Dubious Taste” post, but it hasn’t appeared. It’s been the same for the last few posts.
Also, my most recent “test” post has had zero response, which isn’t usual.

Hi there,
Thanks for clarifying the issue is with your posts not showing up on the main Reader page at wordpress.com/read
After taking a closer look I suspect there may be an issue with posts being picked up correctly, so I have reset the feed on our end. It will take a few hours, but you should see your post appearing after some time has passed.
If you do not see your post in the next 24 hours can you let us know? Thanks!
-
OK, thank you. I’m not planning to post again for a couple of days, but I’ll see how that one goes.
-
I’m still not seeing my posts in the reader – my site “Aphoristic Album Reviews” appears near the top of followed sites on the left since it published a post recently, but it doesn’t appear in the feed.

-
Thanks for letting us know. I’ll report this for our developers to look into.
I appreciate your patience.

Hi there,
I just checked on your site again, and your most recent post is correctly appearing at https://wordpress.com/read for me now:
So it appears this might have just been a delay in the Reader feed updating. But please let us know if this happens again.
-
I’m still not seeing them for myself. There was a new post 7.5 hours ago, and it appears on the list on the left (off the image, but between Tao Talk and adventurepdx.

I’ve also asked a fellow blogger and regular commenter, and he said:
Regarding your posts, there seems to be something funny going on. I do recall seeing an email notification for your post about the 10 Best Eagles songs, which I wanted to read. However, it didn’t show up in my reader, and I admittedly pay more attention to the reader than my email.
Come to think of it further, it seems I haven’t seen any of your posts in my reader in a long time. Usually, I learn about them via email. If I don’t read the actual post soon, sadly, I can forget about it. I certainly don’t do that on purpose, since I reall enjoy your blog!
-
I’ve cleared your feed’s cache. Please check again and let me know if you can see all of your posts in the Reader.
