WordPress.com Account Renewal

I was holding out until I published a new post. Still can’t see it on my phone app or on my feed page on Google Chrome – they’re the two places I’ve tried:

I’ve also noticed that people who’ve started following my blog relatively recently (maybe in the last year?) still seem able to see it, but not people who’ve been following it in the longer term (including myself).

  • Hi there,

Thanks for that feedback. For now I have done a deeper reset of your feed to see if that resolves the issue. You may notice that older posts do not appear in the Reader (due to this reset) although in practice this does not affect subscribers since they usually will not scroll back far enough to see your older posts, and instead use the Reader as a way to flag and surface new content instead.

I’ve also made a note of your feedback to share with our developers. Our Reader is not in active development while we work on other projects so it will get a look, but it may be a while before this particular issue is resolved.

but not people who’ve been following it in the longer term (including myself).

Out of curiosity what happens if you unfollow your site, then follow it again? does that reset the feed and show you the missing post?

    Thanks for the additional info!

I followed then unfollowed myself and can the latest post now. I think that maybe confirms my theory that only recent subscribers can see it?

  • That or it confirms that the reset I did has worked. Did you happen to note if you saw the new post before unfollowing yourself?

I did refresh the feed page a couple of times before I tried the unfollow/follow thing, and I didn’t see my post.

    Additionally, someone else said:

“I just checked again…they are not for mine.” [talking about posts in the feed]

“Your site will not let me unfollow and refollow…it gives me an error message saying “Sorry, there was a problem following http://albumreviews.blog/feed. Please try again.”

  • Can you share the username or email address that was unable to re-subscribe?

  • Hi again,

I see that site is hosted with us here on WordPress.com, please feel free to have them reach us at https://wordpress.com/help/contact so we can take a closer look at the issue with them. There should be nothing preventing them from subscribing so I suspect a different issue.

As you can imagine that is difficult to solve “via telephone” with you in the middle so if you can have them contact us we’re happy to sort it out.

Regarding your site, our engineers identified an issue with the follower migration, where some followers were still subscribed to https://aphoristical.wordpress.com/ and were not moved over to the new self-hosted site (using Jetpack) as they should have been.

This means that for those folks (which you may have been a part of) they were not getting new posts since you are no longer publishing on the WordPress.com site.

At this point, all subs have been fixed, and folks should start seeing new posts in the Reader as you publish them.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for your help – we’ll see how the next post goes, but that sounds promising.
