WordPress.com Admin Rights

    Hello,
I was troubleshooting something and changed another user on my wordpress.org site to admin temporarily, but when I went to change the user back to subscriber I wasn’t able to get into my wordpress.com site the way I used to and see everything like plugins, jetpack, etc. I can only see posts and pages. However, the other user when set to admin can still see everything, but I can’t. Also, the site ownership is now saying ‘Something went wrong’ on wordpress.com. How do I get my rights back?

    Thank you,
    Heather

  • Hi there,

The account you’re currently logged in has no administrator rights. You need to contact the administrator of the site (@3snakes) and ask them to elevate your account.

@3snakes is just my husband’s account – we were troubleshooting together and he was able to help fix something when his user role was changed to Admin but we want my account to be admin. My account is set to Admin but it won’t give me admin rights and defaults to his account with admin rights. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks again,
    Heather

  • Hi Heather,

    Is this for ecourse-alley.com?

We have no control over the user accounts for that site. The site was connected to your WordPress.com account using the Jetpack plugin, but that connection was deleted three days ago.

For you to get that site listed in your WordPress.com account again, you need to log into your admin account on the site itself, at http://ecourse-alley.com/wp-login.php first. Then go to Jetpack in the menu to reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account.

Your admin account for that site is something completely separate and different from your WordPress.com username account you’re using to post here. We have no control over the login details for your admin account on the site itself, so we cannot help you access that. But if your husband has access to his admin account on the site, he can.

If he logs in and goes to WP-Admin ->Users ->All Users, he should be able to reset the password for your account there, which would allow you to log back in and reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account.

    Hello,

I’ve updated my password by logging into my husband’s account. Then I logged him out and logged back into my account. But when I went to Jetpack with my account, there was no option to connect to WordPress.com. However, under his account, there is a button to connect to WordPress.com.

I’ve taken a few screenshots of what I’m seeing:

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated so that I can regain my admin rights and see my site in WordPress.com again.

    Thank you!
    Heather

  • Your husband needs to disconnect that site from WordPress.com and then you’ll be able to connect it to your WordPress.com.

Here’s how to disconnect a site:
