wordpress.com admin URLs not loading

    Hi Happiness Engineers,

Recently, any time I try to visit any wordpress.com URL, anything which is specific to my user doesn’t load:
    * wordpress.com/home says “Select a site to open my Home” but never shows my site
    * wordpress.com/read says “Sorry, we had a problem fetching your Reader subscriptions”
    etc.

<mycustomdomain>/wp-admin works fine. If it was the other way around, I’d be inclined to think I’d messed something up with my custom domain, but I’m not sure how the symptoms I’m seeing would be due to anything I’ve done.

I’m using Firefox. I’ve cleared the cache already, but that doesn’t help. If I try in Private Browsing mode, I can log in OK, so I accept that the problem is client-side.

I imagine the next step will be to clear cookes and site data from Firefox, but I’m not keen on that because that logs me out of everything, which is inconvenient. Before I do that, is there anything else I can try, and is there anything I can do (or not do) in future to avoid this happening again?

    Thanks,
    -Adam

Also: the auto-append of “the blog I need help with is <X>” is unhelpful and incorrect in this case. Please remove that from my post if possible, since I can’t edit it myself.

  • Hey there Adam! I got the link removed for you.

You do seem to have more than one site tied to your account, and one of them (with the .ca domain) isn’t connecting properly. Do you want us to disconnect that from our side?

Hi quasir, thanks for removing the unwanted text from my initial post. Maybe that could be controlled via a checkbox which defaults to enabled?

In terms of managing my sites: thanks for the offer, but I’d rather manage anything to do with my account via a private support ticket rather than a public forum post.

Anything I can do to avoid or work around the issue I describe in my original post please?

  • I tested your account and could load both the “My Home” section and the Reader.

Since you don’t want to clear cookies from Firefox, can you please try logging in to WordPress.com using a private session or a different browser and see if either option lets you load your dashboard correctly?

Hi fstat, thanks for taking a look.

    From my original post:

I’m using Firefox. I’ve cleared the cache already, but that doesn’t help. If I try in Private Browsing mode, I can log in OK, so I accept that the problem is client-side.

I’m just wondering if this is a known issue. I suspect it’s almost-impossible to diagnose and I’m just going to have to clear out my Firefox. It’s inconvenient but not the end of the world.

  • Sadly, if the issue is fixed by using a private window, the issue is indeed client side and there’s little we can do to suss it out without sitting there in front of your computer.

Inconvenient for you, but I’m afraid there isn’t much we can do.
