WordPress.com deleted my free site!

You deleted my free site! I was only paying for the domain mapping service. My credit card expired for that and before I caught it, you deleted my entire site. How do I get you to restore it?
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To add to this, I own the domain through another domain provider, NOT wordpress.com.
All I was paying for was the domain mapping. The original wordpress site was stop405tolls.org mapped to stop405tolls.wordpress.com.It makes no sense to me at all that you would delete a free site. I have created a paid account just so I could ask the question via email support, but there doesn’t even appear to be a way to reach that for service.

Hi there!
We don’t delete WordPress.com sites after the domain connection expires. The domain stop405tolls.org was connected to this site, https://stop405tollsdotorg.wordpress.com, which is still online and accessible. The site address you shared in your second reply is incorrect.
If you’d like to upgrade the site again, you can use the button below to do so. After that, you can add a Domain Connection and set the domain as the primary address on your site.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

aisajib, You just made my day!
Understand that when I clicked on the link in the email from WP to make the payment, it the link showed that the site was gone, so it would not let me pay to renew it. Which only now makes sense because that mapping was gone. However, it appears that I can no longer have a domain mapping for a free site? I have to pay for the Starter?
I can do that, but that was not what I was expecting as a result of the auto-pay failing.

Hi there,
I understand that changes to how upgrades and services work can be a bit surprising, especially if it’s not what you were expecting due to an expiration.
To give you a bit of background, a few years ago, we updated our plans and made a change where the Domain Connection upgrade (formerly known as Domain Mapping) became included in all of our paid plans. This means that the ability to connect a custom domain to your WordPress.com site is no longer available as a separate purchase. I realize this might be a bit different from what you were used to, but this change was made to streamline our services and provide more value within each plan.
The Starter plan, which you have upgraded your site to, comes packed with several benefits. Some of the key features include the removal of ads from your site, giving you a cleaner look. You’ll also get extra storage space and access to our email and live chat support.
f you have any more questions or need further assistance with your plan or site, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.

thanks, fstat. I’m good with it. Particularly the access to support, which would have saved me much headache with this problem.
I have other sites that are still grandfathered in with the old structure. When will I have to change them to a full, paid subscription?

You won’t have to change them. The standalone Domain Connection upgrade will continue to be active on your site for as long as you renew it in time.
