WordPress.com desktop app for macOS 6.7.0 redirects to wp-admin

The 6.7.0 version of the macOS WordPress.com.app now launches a browser with the site’s wp-admin page in it, instead of writing inside the app. 6.6.0 worked fine and didn’t do this.

  • Hi there,

Please note that the “classic editor” has been retired from the app. If you are using the Classic Editor plugin on your site, if you try to create or edit a page or blog post you will be redirected from the app to your browser (wp-admin) where you can continue to work with the classic editor.

If you disable the classic editor plugin, pages and posts you edit in the WordPress add will stay in the app (launching the in-app WordPress block editor) instead of redirecting you to your browser.

    Hope this helps

I don’t have the classic editor plugin installed.

  • Can you give us the URL of the site where this is happening?

If you go via WordPress.com ->My Sites in a browser instead, does that also redirect you to the editor in WP-Admin like the app, or does that stay in the editor at wordpress.com/post ?

Are you using any other plugins that add features to the editor that only exist in WP-Admin?

It’s happening on all six of my sites, some with no other plugins and using the Twenty Twenty theme.

Are you able to reproduce this? It only began happening once upgrading from the 6.6.0 desktop app to the 6.7.0 desktop app.

  • Hm, you’re right, I’m seeing this too.

I have reported it to our developers at https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/48840 and you’re welcome to follow along there if you’d like to.
