WordPress.com for Google Docs

I would like to use WordPress.com for Google Docs in conjunction with my wordpress site hosted at bluehost.com. I am not given that option while in Google Docs, although in the instructions I should have that option.

    What am I missing? Thanks

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  • To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

The good news is, you can still use WordPress.com’s Google Docs integration on a self-hosted WordPress.org site by using the Jetpack plugin: https://jetpack.com/2017/03/14/collaborative-writing-wordpress-google-docs/

Thanks, I made a site at wordpress.com. I’ve done so many things that I hope I say this correctly: I was able to connect the new wordpress.com account to my “real” webhosting account at Bluehost. After that, I was able to get the ‘WordPress.com for Google Docs” to show up in Drive. However, when I want to post the Google Doc as a draft, the Save button turns gray, and nothing else happens.

I then made a new wordpress.com website and didn’t use my domain name, so it is: https://wordpress.com/view/happy901703112.wordpress.com.

I replaced the ‘WordPress.com for Google Docs” add-on with the info from https://wordpress.com/view/happy901703112.wordpress.com, skipping any info about my webhosted account.

It still does not work. So this has nothing to do with my webhost.

What next? I’d really like to get this to work.

  • Hi there,

I was able to connect the new wordpress.com account to my “real” webhosting account at Bluehost.

I am unsure what you mean by this. I am not sure how you would connect a WordPress.com site to a self-hosted account. Is there a site hosted at Bluehost that you linked to your new WordPress.com site?

Are you following the instructions here to get Google Ad on set up?

Please let me know where you are stuck in the process and we’ll be happy to assist you further.

    Thanks!

Yah, I am confused with all the things I’ve been doing all week. I have a starter blog at Bluehost. When trying to get WordPress.com for Google docs going, it seemed that I needed to have a wordpress.com website with the same name. So I made that.

After that, then I was able to get W for GD to have the “button” show up. I thought I was connecting to my Bluehost website. Maybe W for GD was only connecting with the wordpress.com site. I don’t know now.

Then I was working with a guy from Fiverr to get this going, and he had me make a new wordpress.com site, using https://happy901703112.wordpress.com/ instead of my domain name: charismatichappiness.com

I’ve always had my domain name’s DNS at Bluehost, and never pointed it to the wordpress.com site.

I have no idea of what happened to the other wordpress.com site that had my domain name.

W for GD still not working.

You need a WordPress.com user account, not a website.

If you’re using the Jetpack plugin on your Bluehost site, in the setup process you connect to your WordPress.com user account. The WordPress.com site happy901703112.wordpress.com has nothing to do with this connection or integration, so you can forget setting up anything there.

Then I was working with a guy from Fiverr to get this going,

You don’t need to hire someone to help with this. If you gave them access to your accounts, change your passwords right away and cancel your contract.

You need to reach out to Jetpack Support for help in getting your site hosted at Bluehost connected to your WordPress.com account and get the Google Docs integration working on your Bluehost site.

Since that feature works through the Jetpack plugin, their support are the best ones to help you get this sorted out.

    I hope that clarifies things!
