WordPress COM v. ORG // GoDaddy Integration
-
Good morning and thank you in advance for the help – I think I’ve compounded an issue for myself.
I created a WordPress.COM blog and paid for a year to use my own domain name. I then found out I could not install a third party theme so I requested and received a refund for the $13 domain mapping.
I deleted this blog entirely and went through GoDaddy’s WordPress integration to have it/them install WordPress.ORG directly to the domain I’d purchased.
That all went well, however, when I attempt to log into my wp-admin for WordPress.ORG, it redirects me to a page saying I need to purchase domain mapping for WordPress.COM. It does not take me to a dashboard.
I think this is because the domain I purchased was originally pointed to a WordPress.COM site (deleted) and is now pointing to a WordPress.ORG site. But I’m not sure what I can do or who to contact.
Thanks again.

When you mapped your existing domain, you would have had to change the nameservers over on your GoDaddy domain account to point to your wordpress.com site (as per these instructions to Map an Existing Domain).
Now you’ll just need to work backwards to undo the changes you made there. You’ll change the nameservers from NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, etc back to GoDaddy’s original settings.
Here is GoDaddy’s nameserver support page, but if it’s not immediately clear, you should be able to get help from their support staff directly.

Oh my gosh, that’s wonderful advice! I’ll try it out, though since I’ve deleted the WordPress.COM account I don’t think I can get back into the settings. Perhaps the support folks are my best bet. Thank you!

Great, glad to help. The settings you’ll need will be on your GoDaddy account only, so not having access to your old wordpress.com account shouldn’t affect you. Best of luck!
