  • Hi there

    There’s a difference, yes:

WordPress.org is the website where the WordPress community collaborates to make the open source WordPress software.

To use that software, you need to install it on a web server at a web hosting provider.

WordPress.com is one such hosting provider, specifically a managed host, which means we manage some aspects, like server maintenance, software updates, security, backups, etc, for you, but at the same time we have some limitations, for example, you cannot use plugins on our free plan.

If you want to use the open source version of WordPress, rather than our managed version, you’ll need to sign up for a web hosting plan at a provider like Pressable or Bluehost. Then you can register a domain, install the WordPress software at that provider, and use it to build your site.

I see you haven’t added any content to your WordPress.com site with us yet, so there’s nothing you need to migrate here. So if you want to go with another host, you can just start over there.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
