WordPress complexity

    Hi,

    1) I do understand that WordPress is free, but looking at the cumbersome methods and multiple options to create a free website, it makes the newcomer a bit sluggish in his progress. It is definitely not DIY friendly for the first-timer unless there is someone to guide him.

    2) The WP support site does not have all the answers and hence we have to wait for the wonderful WP user community to respond. This entails a waiting time which makes us lose the momentum of our site building activity while at the same time dampening the enthusiasm for the CMS.

    3) Maybe, you could reduce the options and make the steps intuitive and less meandering

    4) It may seem that I am being haughty & ungrateful with a free product / service, since the option of putting up a website without knowing any code was non-existent in the past. Subsequently, the earlier CMSes and some of your contemporaries are much more meandering and complex than WP.

    5) In short, it would be great if WP could launch a simpler & intuitive version for the layperson as many of us do not require so many options and superfluous steps to build or execute simple changes on our website & blogs.

    6) Maybe, WP could launch a simpler & much faster version with relatively less options/features, since it would also be free as per the expectations of your faithful users.

    7) I think it’s time for ‘WP lite’ on the lines of other extremely simple & free CMS sites like Wix, Etsy, etc wherein a novice user can create a simple yet functional site within an hour.

    8) Some of the genuine WP experts may not like this suggestion due to their genuine appreciation for the CMS. While others may strongly oppose my constructive criticism because they might be on the gravy train of making WP sites at a cost, whereas I believe the objective of the WP top management should be to make the free CMS as simple as possible, so that you have more fans amongst the layperson & hobbyists rather than just the tech guys.

    9) I would suggest that it is time to launch a simpler & basic version of WP for hobbyists, senior citizens, freelancers & small business owners alike so that we do not have to attend WP coaching classes to put up a simple site. The Wix & Etsy site building experience is much more intuitive & smooth than the WP site building methodology.

    10) I appreciate what WP has done to the internet by democratising the site building technology, but it would be great if the whole technique / process could be made less unwieldy & tiresome.

    11) I have taken time to write such a long feedback as I am sure that the brilliant folks at WP can simplify things if they could understand the user pain points based on their vast experience in such matters.

    12) So, kindly treat this as a humble request from an ardent non-tech fan and work towards launching ‘WP lite’ this year itself!

    Thanks & Regards,
    Tom

Is all the above referring to installing the wordpress software at some other host? Here at WordPress.com it is the matter of seconds to create a free site and be up and running. Here it can be as simple or as complex as you wish to make it:
