WordPress dash board pestering me about out dated Firefox, dismiss does not work
-
Hi:
Why is WordPress pestering me on my dashboard about my version of Firefox being out dated? I’m using Seamonkey to start with and the latest version at that! When I click “dismiss” to get rid of the annoying message at the top of my dashboard, it just comes right back! :-( How do I get rid off that message?!!

I’m sorry but we can’t disable it. Many of the problems support Staff and Volunteers help with are browser issues. Th announcement of this message you are seeing on your dashboard was made here when it was also announced IE6 was no longer supported.
While we were at it, we started looking at other older browsers, and it makes us cringe a little when we see people using them, because the web could be so much better for them (not to mention more secure) if they would update to their favorite browser’s current version. Starting with this update, if you log in to your WordPress site using an outdated browser, an orange alert will appear on your Dashboard screen letting you know, and will provide links to the browser updates and to Browse Happy, where you can learn a little more about your options. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/just-write/

Dashboard main page: click Screen Options (top right), uncheck “Your browser is out of date!”.

On the very rare (and painful) occasions I view my site & dashboard using IE8, it was giving me that message (the machine runs on XP, so there’s no IE upgrade for it), and I was thrilled to accidentally find that Screen Option when I was changing something else. Now I won’t be bugged to change something that can’t be changed. (Fortunately, I usually use Firefox — IE is sooooooo bloody sloooooooow. I don’t see how anyone using an older computer manages to use it at all!) It never would have occurred to me to look at Screen Options to disable this.
