WordPress data corrupt
-
Hello, can someone export my site’s data for me? Every time I export it the data is corrupted. We have completely redone our site 2 now. Through extensive testing we have determined the data exported from our .com site into our .org is corrupt.
The site we are trying to export from is http://vineoflife.wordpress.com/ (was vineoflife.net)
The new site is vineoflifenews.comAny help would be appreciated!
Thank you

Hi Greg,
It looks like the problem with your export file is caused by the large number of posts and comments in your WordPress.com site. I am asking our team to take a look and generate the export file for you. I’ll let you know as soon as that’s ready! Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Hi Greg, I just sent you an email with a link to download your blog’s export file. Please let me know if you don’t get my email. Thanks!

Hi Rachel, I have the file, but as it ends in .wxr I cannot do anything with it. The program I have to split the file into 2mb sizes for import does not see it.
Any suggestions? Exports are usually .xml Not sure where to go from here. -
Hi Greg, WXR is the WordPress import/export format. You can import WXR files into WordPress.org under Tools → Import → WordPress in your new site’s dashboard. We also have instructions for doing that here:

Please let me know if you have further questions about this!

Hi Rachel, Yes thank you I know how to import the info. :)
What I meant was; when you upload the files into WordPress, there is always a file size limitation in PHP. Therefore the file has to be broken into smaller size files to upload them.
The normal file extension when exporting files from WordPress is XML not WXR even though it is a WXR file. The extension is XML. The program I use (the only one I know of) to split the files into smaller files is called WordPress WXR File Splitter (RSS XML) — Updated v1.52 It will not read WXR file extensions. I saved the file you sent me in Notepad++ as an XML file and then was able to split the file up…but the program would not split the file into the specified 2MB file size, only 3.5MB.
So now I have errors on the new site again. Is it possible to have the data exported in an XML file extension format? I’m sure you realize the file you sent me once opened is 92MB? Unusable that way. Otherwise I’m basically dead in the water as far as all my old posts go.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for clarifying your concerns. We don’t recommend splitting up the export files after they have been created, because this can create errors or unexpected results. If your new host does not accept large files for import, you can export partial archives of your blog by following this guide:
You can create several export files for different date ranges, for example, and then separate export files for your blog’s pages and feedbacks. That way, the import process on the other end will yield more reliable results.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this!
