WordPress deleted my drafts

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi.

I put 5 blog posts into draft (about a month ago) and now, since they’ve added the ‘activity log’ they’ve been permanently deleted! At 2.42 am today – Without my permission! Pretty sure I was asleep at that time. How on Earth can this happen?

Those posts were all about my IVF journey, one of which was a diary of the whole process including the really personal, heart breaking loss of my baby so I need them back.

Has anyone else had this happen since the activity log appeared on the app?

Any idea how to get the posts back?

    Thanks guys

    Hi there,

I know that WordPress.com deletes trashed pages after 30 days: https://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/

That page also describes how to restore trashed pages.

This page talks more about deleted posts and potential ways to recover the content, but it looks like that’s only an option if the pages were published to the internet: https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleted-posts-and-pages/

I haven’t seen WordPress delete draft pages, so I can’t speak to that, unfortunately. You should be able to see your published, draft, and trashed posts here: https://liftingbarbelle.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

I don’t know if the Revisions page would help in this case, either, but it’s worth a look: https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/page-post-revisions/

I’ve tagged this post with modlook, so hopefully a staff member can see this and provide some guidance on your deleted posts.

  • Hi there,

What are the titles of the posts in question?

Our logs show that your account deleted four posts a month ago on 19 July, and those posts were removed from the trash yesterday – this happens automatically 30 days after a post is deleted. Once a post is removed from Trash, there is no way to restore it.

If those are the posts you’re missing, the problem here is that you deleted them, rather than just unpublishing them. Had you unpublished them, they would have been moved to the Draft folder on your site, not Trash, and they wouldn’t have been removed completely.

Activity log, as its name says, only logs actions on your site. It did not cause the content to be removed.
