WordPress design

    Hi,

First, please can I have whatever explanation you give in the simplest form as every answer I have received so far has confused me anymore.

I am currently using the free hosting offered by wordpress.com to create my site, and have come to a dead end in terms of design, as the options offered by wordpress.com are very basic.

How can I improve the options in terms of design offered to me? Some people have mentioned web hosting to me (i.e. go daddy), however some people have said this is not the correct route.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated,
    Harry Demetriou

  • Hi Harry,

It’s certainly possible to customize the design of your WordPress.com blog. It also depends on the extent of flexibility you desire.

For example, it’s easy to change the font types, blog colors, the layout of your theme and the ability to add widgets to name a few. There’s also a real-time Customizer, which lets you preview the changes you’re about to make to the design. Access it from here, play with fonts, colors and widgets.

For an advanced level of customization, e.g., changing the size of menu items, or adding text to the footer, CSS coding is required.

It’s a bit technical but you can always post your requirements and the design changes that you want in the CSS Customization forum.

    Hi ehtis,

Thank you for the reply. I am have basic knowledge of CSS coding. Can I enter this code straight into the ‘text’ editor on the page editor from wordpress.com? Or do I need to install something else?

    Thanks again

  • You’ll have to enter the code in Customizer, which I linked above.

You can get to it from Dashboard > Customize, open the CSS section and enter any code you want there.
