WordPress Discovery

    Hello WordPress.com Team,
I wanted to start a blog thats why I signed up here and started one called the inconsistent archivists. I enjoyed this format and the discovery community that it provides. I obtained some followers but I noticed my blog wasnt showing up on google search or even the Discovery Search. So I researched abit and most advices said I should get a self hosted site. I did that and used Bluehost as my domain provider. Now, my site does appear on google but I am unable to add this site on wordpress.com to obtain followers from the discovery community. I would like to share my content here as well, is it possible to add my self hosted website here? I am not exactly techy. Thank you in advance.
    The Inconsistent Archivists

  • Hi there,

Your site at https://theinconsistentarchivists.wordpress.com/ wasn’t appearing in Google searches because you hadn’t published anything on it since 2017. Google wants recent content, and if a site is inactive for that long, it removes the site from its indexes. I see you started publishing again in June, but it can take a few weeks after you do that before your content will start appearing in search results again, as it will need to be re-indexed by Google and other search engines first.

So this would likely have fixed itself if you’d stayed on WordPress.com and just continued publishing regularly again :)

I see your new site at https://tiarchivists.com/ is already connected to WordPress.com via Jetpack, so any WordPress.com user can already follow your site directly from the WordPress.com Reader. Jetpack also includes a blog subscription widget you can add to let people subscribe to email notifications on your site, and you can add a follow button for the Reader via a widget as well:

    External Follow Button

And if you have existing followers on your WordPress.com site that you want to move over to the new site, you can also do that:

However, for your site to appear in Reader Search and in tag listings in the Reader, you’ll need to be on an upgraded Jetpack plan. Site connected on Jetpack’s free plan are not eligible to appear in Search.
