WordPress doesn't seem to work with Flickr anymore
-
I’ve been using Flickr for over 5 years to store my photos that I use for my blog on wordpress. Now all of a sudden the same process that I use to post pictures to my blog is no longer working. What is going on???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This just happened to me as well. My blog had been using Flickr images just fine, but all of a sudden the images are not working. Any help would be appreciated.

Check out these Flickr threads https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/flickr because forum tag searches are always productive. Check out the Flickr support docs too https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=Flickr

Hi folks, can you send links to the affected posts? I’ll take a look and see what errors are shown so we can sort things out from there.
-
Sure.
Essentially this has been happening to all of my posts, starting with this one from yesterday. Instead of the image showing, it just shows the flickr link. Until the issue’s fixed, I’ve been going through my media collection and just deleting pics that I have duplicates of, but it’s only a short term fix. I appreciate you looking into this.
-
Not a problem and that’s definitely interesting, all of the pictures are working normally now. I assumed you had fixed it somehow on your end. Perhaps it was just some kind of short lived glitch. Well, thanks a lot for getting back to me and I appreciate the assistance!
-
I think it could well have been a temporary issue with the internet itself, since I was never able to duplicate it here.
-
Hi everyone …. similar issue here. My Flickr photo’s appear in my posts, but on the front (blog) page, it doesn’t display.
I am currently using the Sapor theme. It’s really important to get these to display in the blog page.
-
Hi @fishmandan, I can certainly see that happening, actually. Your front page for Sapor uses featured images and galleries rather than images embedded from outside sources.
-
Any tips? I’m really reliant on the Flickr-linked image appearing in my Blog view. Having a featured image also means a reader can’t click-through from my Post to my Flickr library.
Is this something that is intrinsic in the theme? Do I need a more Flickr-friendly theme? Does such a thing exist these days?!

Featured images in every theme are basically part of the site layout, and they need to be stored in your media library. But every theme supports flickr images in the content area.
I’d recommend choosing images you’re free to download, then upload them to your site for your featured images. You can use embedded images for the rest of the content if you’d like.

Thanks for the reply. I store my photo’s at Flickr (for now!) and it’s easier to apply a theme that works, rather than upload all my photo’s. I will go Premium at some point (or self-hosted), which will make sense to upload them directly to the site.
Until then, the hunt goes on! I installed a new theme this morning;
-
@fishmandan Try uploading just the featured images here… even somewhat smaller versions if you have to. To use featured images in any theme, you will need to have them uploaded to your site.
-
Thanks SN …. I’d rather move without featured, but that takes away the ability to link to the full res file in Flickr.
Thanks for your feedback though, and apologies to the OP for the thread-jack.
Ultimately I will have to go self-hosted.
