WordPress Domain Expired – How to Renew?

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain that was registered through WordPress has expired. I have set it to auto-renew in the >>Dashboard>Store>My Domains menu, but it is still expired. I’ve submitted a support ticket, but still no word. What next steps should I take?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That domain is not registered through WordPress.com, it is only mapped here. According to the WHOIS info, the registrar is 1and1. If it is expired, you will need to log into your account with 1and1 and renew there.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Thanks so much for the reply! I’m now working with 1and1 to revive the domain. Is it possible to map an additional domain, for example if I register innovatevirginia.net? Can this be set up through WordPress?

    Thanks again!

Yes you can map more than one custom domain name to a WordPress.COM blog – only limitation is that only one can be “Primary” (displayed in the browser window of visitors)

  • Auxclass is correct.

You can have as many domains as you would like pointing to your WordPress.com site. But you have to choose a “primary” domain which is the one that will display to your viewers in their browser address bar.

Thank you both for your help. I worked with 1and1 and the domain is now restored.

This leads me to the question of how to republish the blog – is there a ‘one-click’ option that would allow me to push all pages out to refresh the sit?

  • is there a ‘one-click’ option that would allow me to push all pages out to refresh the sit?

I’m not sure that I understand your question. Could you explain a bit further?

Sure. Before the domain expired, we had a rich website that was the landing page for an annual conference. It showed the conference tracks, speakers, schedule, etc. on multiple pages. When the domain expired, that was all wiped. I still have all the pages in the WordPress account and I’d like to be able to publish everything in one fell swoop to refresh ‘www.innovatevirginia.com’ with the full content without having to publish each page of the site individually.

  • Understood.

If all of your pages/etc were built on WordPress.com, there is no need to republish anything they will all still be there. Do you see everything when you view posts/pages from here:

    https://innovatevirginia.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

However, it does look like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=innovatevirginia.com

And that may be causing the confusion about things being unpublished.

Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
