wordpress domain names

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I would like to change my wordpress domain name from iamkevintmuller.wordpress.com to kevintmuller.wordpress.com. However, when I go to change it is says that it has already been used, but when I go to the website is says the authors have deleted the site. Is there anyway I can gain access to that domain to use for myself?

    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi,

May be the desired domain is in the Grace Period or in Redemption Period.

After the deletion of the domain by the domain owner, If a domain is not redeemed by the original registrant and is not purchased at auction, the domain is usually then returned to the pool of available domain names and can be registered again on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Added “modlook” for staff assistance.

For all the detailed information you can visit below link:

    Thanks.

  • pandeyabhaykumar – the information you’ve shared does not pertain to a free .wordpress.com site address. Those never expire or renew, they are always free. The details that you’ve mentioned are only pertinent to a custom domain.

  • Hi Kevin –

In general, yes, you can change the name on your free .wordpress.com site address.

However, this case is different. Since the other site was previously deleted you aren’t going to be able to use it. These aren’t recycled or reused in any way. This prevents folks from impersonating someone else.

Now, if you were the owner of the deleted site, we can restore it up to 30 days after the site is deleted. In that case, we need you to email us directly from the email notification we sent you when the site was deleted.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. Write back to me here with any other questions.
