WordPress Domain Names and SEO implications
-
I have the domain name http://www.realstew.kiwi.nz and due to the domain name name it does rank well for searches on RealStew as you’d imagine.
Now if i wanted to build a wordpress website at this http://www.realstew.kiwi.nz site, and use a free wordpress theme, do i have to “map an existing domain name which would then map back to http://www.realstew.wordpress.com ?
If so, that would not be very helpful for SEO wouldn’t it?
Completely new to WordPress too so much to learn!
I found this great info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ however, but it doesn’t really answer my concerns about what that mapping an existing domain name back to a example.wordpress.com site would do for your search engine results rankings…?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

You would probably have a Terms of Service issue with http://www.realstew.kiwi.nz/ if I read it correctly and the site would be suspended
the real reason that is sucks SEO is that you have no content on it – one single plain page – does not matter where you are hosted

You might also review the TOS before you get too far along:

Thanks auxclass. Yes, i understand well about content indeed. My question was referring to the domain name of example.wordpress.com versus a (email visible only to moderators and staff) as i am unsure as to how an “example.wordpress.com” domain name would actually rank for SEO?
Re TOS, one is allowed to have a commercial website using WordPress isn’t one? ! Not quite sure i understand what you mean?

your.wordpress.com – bit better than your.com for SEO – but your.com has better identity
