WordPress Domain Registration and Google Workspace Issues

  • Unknown's avatar

I had my domain purchased through WordPress, with it linked to my Google Workspace. I ended my paid domain from WP, and now my GW is stuck thinking WP is the still the domain, and I am no longer receiving emails.

The Domain section of my site no longer displays that the domain is connected, but Google still shows that it is. I cannot seem to unlink the two because I no longer have the domain subscription, and I don’t want to pay $180 for Pro to unlink this.

All I want to do is unlink my WordPress domain from my Google Workspace. Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi there,

I don’t see a Google Workspace subscription in your account with us. Did you buy that with another provider/directly from Google?

A Google Workspace account is always bought for a particular domain, and it depends on the DNS records added to that particular domain to work. When you cancel the domain, those DNS records stop working, and so does your email.

Restoring the domain will result in your emails working again, but there’s nothing on our end linking your domain to your Google Workspace account – your GW account is something entirely separate from your domain registration and account with us.

The only way to unlink your Google Workspace from the domain and link it to another domain is from within your Google Workspace admin itself. You can find Google’s instructions to do this here:

    https://support.google.com/a/answer/7009324

From what I read there, the current domain doesn’t need to be active for you to follow that process.

If you run into any trouble with those instructions, please contact Google support directly, or if you bought GW from another reseller, contact that reseller instead.

If you still want to reactivate the domain anyway, please confirm here and we can email our domain provider to request that. I see you weren’t refunded for the last renewal when you cancelled, and at the moment the domain isn’t in redemption yet, so we should be able to restore it at no additional cost to you.

Keep in mind that restoring the domain now also won’t restore any emails that might have been sent while the domain was cancelled – those would have bounced back to their senders with an error that the mailbox doesn’t exist.
